For those of you thinking what is a witch doing on a Christmas scene, La Befana is a 'goodie'... in Italian folklore La Befana delivers gifts to children on the Eve of the Epiphany (5th January) much in the way Santa Claus does. Just like Santa she leaves only coal in the stockings of naughty children and sweets and gifts in the stockings of good children.
